Samantha Hoang, PhD
Assistant Professor
Dr. Hoang is passionate about doing research in engineering education and with undergraduates on topics such as multi-rotor drone dynamics and controls.
Biography
Samantha Hoang is an Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department. Dr. Hoang received her B.S. in Engineering from Harvey Mudd College and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington. She has experience doing research in dynamics and controls of large, multi-rotor drones (i.e., quadcopters, hexacopters, etc). Her current research interests involve applying equity-centered pedagogical approaches to improve learning and student experiences in her courses and researching other ways to improve the student experience as a whole, especially for students from marginalized backgrounds.
Dr. Hoang teaches a variety of courses ranging from introductory Computer Aided Graphics (CAD) to dynamics, controls, and data acquisition. She uses a variety of modern pedagogical approaches in teaching her classes including mastery-based grading, inverted/flipped classroom, and project-based learning in order to create a richer experience for her students by facilitating an inclusive and engaging environment in the classroom.
